Hasbro unveils a new Star Wars: The Black Series figure depicting the white-clad Darth Vader from the Star Wars Infinities: Return of the Jedi comic.

White Vader Figure

Hasbro has officially unveiled the latest 6-inch Star Wars figure to join The Black Series: the light-side, white-clad Darth Vader from the 2004 Dark Horse comic book Star Wars Infinities: Return of the Jedi.

The Star Wars: The Black Series 6-Inch Infinities Darth Vader retails for $27.99 USD and is currently available for pre-order. The figure is expected to ship in Spring 2023. “Star Wars fans and collectors can imagine scenes from the Star Wars galaxy with this premium Star Wars: The Black Series 6-Inch Infinities Darth Vader figure, inspired by the Star Wars Infinities: Return of the Jedi comic book,” Hasbro said. “Vader duels Luke aboard the second Death Star when Leia arrives revealing that she too is a Skywalker. Unable to confront both his children, he turns from the dark side. He reemerges as a Jedi once more, clad all in white.”

Star Wars Infinities is a trilogy of graphic novels originally published by Dark Horse Comics from 2002 to 2004. Each comic depicts a standalone, non-canon version of each respective film in the original Star Wars trilogy — A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi — revealing what things would have been like had the events of those films played out a little bit differently.

For instance, 2002’s Star Wars Infinities: A New Hope tells an alternate version of the original Star Wars film where Luke Skywalker’s proton torpedoes failed to destroy the Death Star. Assuming the Death Star was destroyed like in the film, however, 2003’s Star Wars Infinities: The Empire Strikes Back explores an alternate timeline where Luke froze to death on Hoth. Finally, assuming both Star Wars and Empire went the way they were supposed to, 2004’s Star Wars Infinities: Return of the Jedi shows what would have happened had C-3PO been unable to translate for the disguised Leia Organa during the latter’s gambit to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt.

This premise is rather similar to Marvel Comics’ long-running series What If, which debuted in 1977 (the year the first Star Wars movie came out, funny enough). What If offers a look into alternate realities where key moments from Marvel history played out differently than they did in the main continuity. In 2021, Marvel Studios adapted the comic into a Disney+ animated series titled What If…?, which applies this same premise to the events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, leading fans to wonder if Star Wars could get a similar treatment under the Disney banner.

The Star Wars: The Black Series 6-Inch Infinities Darth Vader figure goes on sale in 2023 from Hasbro.
