Star Ocean 2 Remake/Remaster to Release This Year; Project Is More Ambitious Than First Departure R – Rumor

A Star Ocean 2 remake/remaster was leaked last week, and it seems like we won’t have to wait too long to play the game, according to what a reliable source shared recently.

Speaking on the ResetERA forums, NateDrake, who proved to be a reliable source of information in the past, revealed that the game is launching later this year. While it wasn’t specified if this is a remaster or a remake, NateDrake revealed that he is unsure if it is based on the original PlayStation or PSP release, as its scope and ambition are greater than those of First Departure R, which was released on PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch a couple of years back with very little changes over the PSP release.

While NateDrake proved to be reliable in the past, we have to take everything with a grain of salt until an announcement comes in. As the cat is now out of the bag, it will likely not take much longer for Square Enix to finally announce this new version of Star Ocean 2.

Following the release of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, the series created by tri-Ace seemed done, but that wasn’t the case, as, last year, the Japanese developer released Star Ocean: The Divine Force, a surprisingly solid role-playing game that is much better than the fourth and fifth entries in the series, as I highlighted in my review.

The Star Ocean 2 remake/remaster has yet to be officially announced. We will keep you updated on the game as soon as an announcement is made, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
