Star England bowler booed after despised act
England fast bowler Craig Overton has been booed after an attempted Mankad during a county match in Birmingham.
Playing for Somerset against Warwickshire at Edgbaston, Overton appeared distracted all day, finishing with 0-57 as Warwickshire made 4-283.
Early in the day the fast bowler lost his temper after attempting to collect the ball in his follow through and throw at the striker’s end stumps.

After fumbling the ball, he then had an airswing as he attempted to kick it in the direction of batsman Will Rhodes.
Things went downhill in the last session of the day, when Overton first warned Matthew Lamb for backing up too far at the non-strikers end, then attempted to Mankad Lamb.
Lamb would technically have been out, but Somerset captain Tom Abell withdrew the appeal.
“At one stage – but only after warning him previously – Overton appeared to have run Lamb out backing up,” George Dobell wrote for ESPNcricinfo.
“ESPNcricinfo understands that Somerset’s captain, Abell, agreed to withdraw the appeal when the umpire, Steve O’Shaughnessy, questioned whether he wanted it upheld.
“The episode resulted in a little booing from the crowd but Overton is the sort of competitor any team would want on their side.”
Overton, who made his Test debut in Adelaide during the 2017-18 Ashes series, has taken 17 wickets in six Tests, along with four wickets in as many ODIs.
