Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton’s dramatic love story unveiled

Following their momentous Strictly Come Dancing win, Kevin Clifton fought back the tears on stage as he thanked documentary maker Stacey Dooley for coaxing him to “fall in love with dancing again”.

Though fans thought they spotted chemistry of a different kind between the two, both parties are adamant that nothing had happened between them while they appeared on the BBC show.

At that time, Stacey, who turns 36 today, had been in a seven-year relationship with personal trainer Sam Tucknott, while Kevin, 40, had recently divorced fellow pro dancer Karen Hauer Wyn Jones.

Yet it soon emerged that the bond between the Strictly stars had deepened following Stacey’s split from Sam, and the pair got together the next year.

Sam didn’t take the news well and afterward claimed that, while he was clearing his belongings out of their shared flat, he allegedly discovered a love note on his ex’s phone.

“Anyone with any adult life experience knows there are 2 sides to every story,” she wrote, adding: “I haven’t got the time or energy to correct some of the utter nonsense I’ve read on here.”

Kevin and Stacey proved that they were in it for the long haul when they survived lockdown together.

Their fairytale love story continued to leap from strength to strength when Stacey announced she was pregnant last August.

They now have a baby daughter Minnie, who recently turned three months old, and the proud mum gushed to Instagram that she has no idea how she “got so lucky”.

That said, fans shouldn’t expect a glitzy showbiz lifestyle from them behind closed doors, as Netflix-loving Kevin has insisted to the Guardian: “We are the most boring couple in the history of the world!”
