Sporting Lisbon star Goncalves scores amazing goal to rock Arsenal

Arsenal were rocked by a goal of the season contender by Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Goncalves in their Europa League clash on Thursday night. The midfielder netted from inside the centre circle to level the scores at the Emirates Stadium. And it eventually led to the Gunners crashing out on penalties.

Arsenal took the lead against Sporting Lisbon in the 19th minute to boost their chances of reaching the Europa League last eight.

But Gonclaves netted an outrageous strike to draw the Portuguese side level.

The midfielder, who previously struggled to shine in the Premier League at Wolves, lifted an effort over the head of Aaron Ramsdale to silence the Emirates Stadium.

He celebrated wildly, knowing he’s scored arguably the greatest goal he’ll ever net during the course of his career.

And with the tie level 3-3 on aggregate, Sporting eventually triumphed 5-4 on penalties to lead to wild celebrations in the away end.

“Pedro goncalves is a joke, what a goal,” were the words of @HarleySummers20.

“For Pedro Goncalves to try that when his side is 1-0 down and then pull it off? Great goal,” stated @JLABTV.

And @_captainSK7_ said: “What a Strike.”

And he added: “The warning signs were there. Arsenal really needed to maximise their opportunities but Sporting have been on the front foot since the start of the second-half.”

Arsenal will now have to focus on their title attempts, with the Premier League the only competition they have left to focus on. Gabriel Martinelli missed the crucial spot-kick, and was consoled by his teammates.
