Spain holiday boost as strict Covid rules are scrapped for Brits

UNVACCINATED Brits can now visit Spain after they have scrapped more of their Covid rules.

Brits who are yet to have both of their jabs will only need to have a negative Covid test to enter the country.

This can be a PCR test or an antigen test.

It was thought the ban on non-vaccinated adult tourists from the UK would remain in place until at least June 15 following a new extension.

But on May 21, the Spanish tourist board said: “Spain has updated its entry requirements. From 21 May, a negative PCR or antigen test will also be valid for entry to Spain for those coming from outside the EU (including the UK).”

The Spanish Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto said it was “excellent news”.

THey said: “This excellent news, highly anticipated by the tourism sector, will make it easier for tourists from outside Europe to visit us this high season, guaranteeing safe mobility.

“Spain is emerging as one of the most desired destinations in the world, as shown by the demand indicators that month after month are approaching pre-pandemic levels.”

Brits who are fully vaccinated can still enter the country without tests if they can show proof of vaccinations.

Children were also exempted from the vaccination ban, which included teenagers aged between 12 and 17.

Back in April, unvaccinated Brits were incorrectly told they could enter the country, only for the tourist board to backtrack.

The mandatory use of face masks in Spain in public indoors was lifted last month following the ending of other Covid restrictions including limits on business opening hours.

And Brits have been flocking back to the sunshine holiday destination this year in numbers which have given hoteliers hope of a swift return to the pre-pandemic situation.

However, tourists in the country faced a 42C heatwave over the weekend, leading to a travel warning over Saharan dust cloud and wildfires.

And there are lots of new rules in place that Brits need to be aware of – including having at least three months left on their passport to enter Spain.
