Southampton make Dean Henderson ‘enquiry’ and more Man United transfer rumours

Southampton have made an enquiry to sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United, according to reports.

Following loan spells at Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury and Sheffield United earlier in his career, Henderson displaced long-serving David de Gea as number one at Old Trafford last season.

However, due to a prolonged absence through Covid-19 and the Spaniard returning to top form, the England man has been restricted to only two appearances this term — one of them under Ralf Rangnick.

Rangnick has already confirmed that United have turned down a transfer request from Henderson and is keen to keep hold of the academy graduate despite interest from clubs. According to Football Insider, Southampton have attempted to make contact over a signing.

Henderson is under contract until 2025 on a deal worth roughly £100,000 per week.

Southampton number one Alex McCarthy is currently injured but, while Ralph Hasenhuttl does have Fraser Forster and Willy Caballero available, the Austrian has reportedly identified the position as a priority for this January window and is pursuing Henderson in that regard.

Elsewhere, reports suggest Bundesliga side RB Leipzig are yet to receive an offer from Newcastle or other suitors for United target Amadou Haidara.

Having signed Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo last summer, key figures in the boardroom are now prioritising a defensive midfield recruit.

Along with Rice, Boubacar Kamara and Ruben Neves from Wolves, Haidara is being linked with a United move.

Saudi-backed Newcastle are also thought to be in the race for his signature.

However, according to German publication Bild, his current club are yet to receive any official approaches.

Haidara has a €40million release clause in his Leipzig contract but, amid interest from United and Newcastle, that only becomes active next summer.
