Sony’s Project Q Is A “Handheld Version of the PlayStation 5”, According to Microsoft’s Lawyers

Sony’s Project Q handheld device, which was officially confirmed to be in the works last month, is going to be a handheld version of the PlayStation 5 console, according to a document that was recently shared online.

As spotted by Axios’ Stephen Totilo on Twitter, in one of the court documents for the trial between the Federal Trade Commission, Microsoft, and Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s lawyers talked about the upcoming handheld device, describing it as a handheld version of the PlayStation 5 console that will retail for less than $300 in the United States, which is a somewhat high price for what the device will offer. This description is quite interesting as it is somewhat misleading, as the device was announced to focus on Remote Play functionality and will not be capable of running games on its own like a proper handheld console would.

Outside of its focus on Remote Play, there isn’t a whole lot we know about the Project Q device. The console, which will only work if connected to the same network as a PlayStation 5 console, will sport an 8″, 1080p display and all of the DualSense controller functionality, such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. A final launch date has yet to be confirmed, although Sony did say the device will release sometime this year. As we’re past the second half of the year, we should expect more information on the device in the near future.
