Something to Talk About and Grammy-winning songwriter dies aged 67

Shirley Eikhard died aged 67 on Thursday in Ontario from cancer complications. Many have paid tribute to the “wonderful” songwriter, including Bonnie Raitt the singer of Shirley’s songwriting hit, Something To Talk About.

Shirley died on Thursday at the Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville, Ontario, due to complications from cancer, said her publicist Eric Alper.

She had supplied songs in her lengthy career to the likes of Cher, Emmylou Harris, Anne Murray, Chet Atkins and Bonnie Raitt.

Bonnie was one of the first to pay tribute to her friend Shirley on Twitter.

She penned: “I’m deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my friend Shirley Eikhard, the wonderful Canadian singer/songwriter who wrote my hit song, “Something to Talk About.”
