Some carers will receive £245 on top of usual benefits next month
Carers in Scotland who are eligible for Carer’s Allowance are due a cash boost of £245 in December from the DWP but it won’t be extended to carers who live south of the border. Around 80,000 or more carers are thought to be due the payment in December after receiving the first bi-annual payment back in April.
Carers don’t need to apply for this help as it is paid automatically to those receiving Carer’s Allowance.
People in England will not receive the supplement despite the fact that many carers are struggling to survive amid the cost of living crisis.
Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, warned some months ago carers are one of the worst hit groups by the cost of living crisis.
She said: “We are seeing unprecedented levels of stress and financial worries piled on unpaid carers.”

At the same time almost half a million Britons are missing out on Carer’s Allowance worth £3,624 a year.
To qualify for this DWP benefit, people need to care for someone for at least 35 hours a week.
People could be entitled to Carer’s Allowance if they are working, as long as they don’t earn more than £128 a week after relevant expenses are taken into account.
However, for the carer to qualify for this benefit, the individual they are caring for needs to be claiming certain benefits.
