Earlier this week, rumours of Snapchat working on bringing a subscription service were doing the rounds of the internet. Now, the social media app has finally introduced the paid subscription plan called “Snapchat Plus.” Snapchat is the third social media app after Twitter and Telegram to bring a subscription service for its users.
Like the other two, Snapchat Plus also offers extra perks to subscribers than normal users for a monthly fee. First, Snapchat Plus users will get some exclusive features and be able to test out new features before anyone else. However, they would not be getting rid of ads anytime soon. The Snapchat Plus is priced at $3.99 per month (~Rs 314.94 per month).
What is Snapchat Plus?
In an official blog post, the company said, “Today we’re launching Snapchat+, a collection of exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features available in Snapchat for $3.99/month. This subscription will allow us to deliver new Snapchat features to some of the most passionate members of our community and allow us to provide prioritised support. Snap says that the Snapchat Plus will bring a “collection of exclusive, experimental and pre-release features”
What changes does Snapchat Plus bring?
Snapchat Plus brings some minor cosmetic changes to the app rather than enhancing the user experience. For starters, subscribers will be able to change the app’s icon. Then, the paying customers will also be able to check who rewatched their story and even pin one of their friends at the top of the chat list. Snap’s SVP, Jacob Andreou, said to The Verge that some of these features would eventually be released for everyone, while few will remain exclusive for paid subscribers.
Snapchat Plus will be available this week for users in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. There is no word on when it will be released in India.
