SMVD Gurukul bags 8 medals in first ever North Zone Youth Festival-Katra – Times of India
JAMMU: SMVD Gurukul students excelled and bagged 08 Medals at the 3-day North Zone Youth Festival ‘Kshitij’ organized at the premises of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in collaboration with Central Sanskrit University which concluded with the valedictory function held at the Spiritual Growth Centre, Katra here today.
This mega event named ‘Kshitij’ has commenced at Katra for the first time for the promotion of Sanskrit in the Union territory as per the directions of Chairman, SMVDSB Lieutenant Governor JK-UT who called that north zone youth festival would lead to a better understanding of the various aspects of Sanskrit studies and knowledge system in inauguration ceremony of the festival on Feb 20.
In all, 300 students from Central Sanskrit University and Adarsh Maha Vidyalaya of Sanskrit, along with various campuses situated in J-K, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand including institution of the host Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Katra participated in the mega event.
The events organised during the festival included Rangoli, translation competition, Sanskrit News writing, Computerized Sanskrit ,Educational short film, Solo Sanskrit Song, Group Song & Dance competition and various sports events like 100 meter sprint, 400 meter, Badminton, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Chess and wrestling. Ved Vyas Campus Himachal Pradesh won the overall trophy besides, Shree Ranbir Campus remained runner up in the festival.
A total of 35 students from SMVD Gurukul participated in various events and clinched 08 medals in sports and cultural events. These included Gold medal (first prize) in Sanskrit Short film, Rangoli and Group Song whereas, in wrestling claimed Silver medal (2nd Prize) in 61kg and Bronze medal (3rd Prize) in 65 Kg and 70 Kg categories. Besides, secured a Bronze medal (3rd Prize) in Group dance and Solo Song.
Anshul Garg, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board congratulated the winners for their exemplary performance and also appreciated their endeavours as SMVD Gurukul participated for the first time in such a mega event.
CEO lauded the Central Sanskrit University for successful completion of the event and congratulated the winners of various competitions and the participating students for displaying their talents.
On the occasion of the closing ceremony, the book of the Campus Director, Prof. Madan Mohan Jha was also released by the Guests.
Eminent guests who were present during the valedictory included Vice Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Prof RK Sinha, DIG Shakti Pathak, Prasad Mahankar Saraswat of Krida Bharti, Prof. Madan Mohan Jha, Director of Shri Ranbir Campus, Dr. JC Mehra, Joint CEO besides, faculty and staff of SMVD Gurukul, Central Sanskrit University and Adarsh Maha Vidyalaya of Sanskrit, along with various campuses.
