Sleep expert on 6 top tips to sleep better during humid weather

Recent research from Dreams discovered that for over half the week, Britons are experiencing disturbed, broken, or a bad night’s sleep.

The most common reason attributed to a bad night’s sleep, at 34 percent, is feeling too hot.

Sammy Margo, the sleep expert at Dreams, has shared her top tips to better sleep during humid weather.

A wet sheet

“Dampen a sheet with cold water and hang it in front of your open window,” advised Margo. “The breeze will blow through the sheet and cool down your room.”

Use a spoon

Another tip is to “consider keeping a cold metal object, such as a spoon, within reach on your bedside table”.

Margo explained: “Using this object to cool down specific areas of your body, such as your wrists or neck, before bed can help you feel more comfortable and refreshed.

“Plus, having it nearby means you can easily grab it during the night if you need a quick cool-down.”

Frozen sheets

Margo added: “Put your sheets and pillowcases in a plastic bag and stick them in the freezer for a few hours before bed. This can create a cool and refreshing sleeping surface.”

Cool lotions

Margo said: “If you use beauty products such as facial sprays, toners, or moisturisers, consider storing them in the fridge.

“Applying chilled products to your skin can help soothe and refresh you, especially on hot and sticky nights.”

Cool bedding

Margo said: “Consider investing in cooling bedding to help you stay cool and comfortable during hot summer nights.

“Look for bedding made with breathable materials, such as bamboo or cotton, that can help regulate body temperature.

“Additionally, there are special bedding products, such as Dreams mattress toppers, duvets, mattresses and pillows, that are designed to stay cool and promote a comfortable sleep environment.”

Margo also recommended filling a hot water bottle with cold water in the few hours before you plan to go to bed.

“Then, place it at your feet or other cool parts of your body to help you fall asleep,” Margo explained.

Margo’s final top tip os to “fill a shallow bowl with ice and place it in front of a fan”.

She added: “The air blowing over the ice will create a cool breeze that can help lower the temperature in your room.”
