Slater Young apologized for his recent controversial remark on how “very normal” it is for men to fantasize about other women even while in a relationship, noting how he realized his mistake after reflecting for a few days.

The “Pinoy Big Brother” alum made this comment in response to an anonymous “skypodcast” listener, who asked if she was “crazy” for “debating” with her boyfriend after she caught him “fantasizing” about other women in a group chat with his friends.

This immediately drew ire from netizens, prompting Young and his wife, content creator Kryz Uy, to address the issue through a separate podcast on Monday, May 15.

“It’s been a hard few days. It’s been an eye-opening few days,” he began after Uy asked how he was feeling. “Sometimes, you think that you did something OK and it takes a little while for it to sink in na, ‘Oo nga ‘no. Mali pala talaga ako.’”

Young admitted he was initially defensive after receiving backlash over his remark, but he eventually felt ashamed after realizing he was in the wrong.

“Now, giving it more context and more perspective, parang nahiya ako of the things that I’ve said,” he said.

“It took a lot of reading through comments because I wanted to understand why this was the case…,” he added. “And I finally realized na, ‘Oh my God, I really made a mistake because I’m giving it power to say it’s OK.’”

Young stressed that objectifying women would be the “last thing in [his] mind and heart,” while Uy spoke about how the backlash probably rooted from how “loosely” he used the term “fantasize.”

“I should have set a better example. I should have called it out na yes it happens but this isn’t OK. We should hold ourselves to a higher standard,” he stated.

“‘Yun ‘yung pinakamalaki kong learning—a big eye-opener for me. I truly, truly do apologize in my heart of hearts,” he said. “Hindi talaga ako pro-objectifying women but ‘yun ‘yung mga words na sinabi ko, ‘yun ‘yung effect na nagawa ko sa mga sinabi ko.”

The couple also talked about how this instance has reminded them to be mindful of the advice they give in their platform and consider its repercussions.

“When I read the articles, I don’t feel angry. I feel ashamed na nako-quote ako ng ganyan and like parang…, ‘This is not me and I wish I could take it back,’” Young lamented. “I just want to put this out there that I really do apologize and I need a little bit more time to reflect.”

Uy, who has been receiving comments about how she “can be OK” with her husband “objectifying and fantasizing about other women,” then noted that she is confident Young doesn’t do such things and that he only made a mistake in his choice of words and how he expressed it.

Uy also stressed that if he ever does those kinds of things, she would be the first one to call him out.

Young concluded the podcast by reiterating, “Apologies. That’s not my intention and in my heart, hindi talaga ‘yun ‘yung intention ko so I hope na mapagbigyan.”  /ra
