Sky warns of shock charge that could cost you £100s – and it’s totally avoidable
SKY has warned customers they must return old equipment or face a charge.
Whether you’re leaving Sky or have upgraded with a brand new box, the firm requires previous kit back.
Only more recent devices incur a fee if they’re not returned.
But making the mistake of selling or binning your previous box could cost you hundreds.
So it’s well worth checking beforehand – even if it’s broken.
The most expensive of the bunch is the Sky Q 2TB box which will cost you £135 if it’s not sent back.
A Sky Q 1TB box comes in at £115, while the Sky Q Mini box is £50.
The same applies for internet kit too.
An unreturned Sky Q Hub/Sky Broadband Hub will set you back £50 and a Sky Broadband Booster is £35.
The firm also made its Sky Stream internet-TV pucks loaned as of February as well, so be sure to return those if anything changes.
Sky warns that you’ll be charged for every piece of equipment you don’t return – so if you have more than one of the above, you could end up paying quite a bit.
“If you don’t return this equipment within the time frame given, you’ll have to pay a Non-Return charge,” the firm says.
“We’ll send you texts, emails or letters to remind you to return your equipment, if we haven’t got it back.
“And then, if we still don’t get the equipment back in the time frame given, you’ll get a letter or email confirming what you’ll be charged.”
And if you think failure to return the box and paying up means it’s yours to keep, think again.
Sky adds: “Paying a Non-return charge doesn’t buy the equipment, it’s just a cost for not returning.
“It will still be Sky owned and we’ll still want you to return it.”
Generally, you’ll have 60 days to send your kit back.
But those who have cancelled because they’ve fallen into debt will need to return it within 30 days.
The easiest way to return stuff is via a Sky engineer if one is visiting to install new equipment.
Otherwise, you’ll need to send it in the post for free.
