Sky warns millions never to put TV box in three places – we’re all guilty of one

THERE are three places you must avoid placing your Sky box.

That’s according to an official Sky memo that millions must not ignore.

Your Sky box is made from a breathable plastic that naturally releases heat through the top.

It also contains a fan and vents designed to stop the box from getting too hot.

But if your Sky box is too noisy or hot, it could be a sign that you’ve made a big mistake – and they’re so common, you’re probably guilty of at least one.

“Your Sky Q box has a hard disk that makes a noise similar to that of a PC,” Sky explained.

“It also has a temperature-controlled fan that may come on occasionally.”

Sky says that you should check the placement of your box “if you’re noticing an excessive amount of noise”.

There are three places you shouldn’t put your Sky box, according to Sky.

The first is “on a carpet or in an enclosed space” – like inside a closed cabinet.

This could impact the breathability of the device.

“Allow at least 10cm of space above and on both sides of the box vents,” Sky explains.

Similarly, Sky warns that you shouldn’t place your Sky box “on top of or underneath other devices”.

This is to prevent the vents from being blocked.

Finally, Sky warns that you should keep the TV box away from all heat sources.

This includes “TVs, electronic devices, radiators and direct sunlight”.

If you’ve moved your Sky box into a good position and it’s still noisy, it’s recommended that you try a restart.

To do that, press standby on your Sky Q remote then switch off or unplug your box.

Leave it disconnected for at least 15 minutes then plug it back in and switch it on.

Sky says some features may take up to five minutes to return.
