Sky TV customers warned of costly mistake – check your account
IF you’ve got Sky Glass or are considering it there is a big caveat you should be aware of.
Sky Glass is the firm’s streaming-based TV product and the set itself doesn’t come cheap.
The TV is yours as a 24 or 48 month interest free loan as part of your usual subscription bill.
Or you can pay for it upfront.
Either way, the cost of the TV starts from £699 for the 43-inch display.
This goes right the way up to £1199 for the biggest 65-inch one.
But what happens once your subscription is paid up and you decide you no longer want to stay with Sky?
According to Sky’s online support site Sky Glass without a Sky Ultimate TV subscription “will work like a normal TV”.
However, it won’t be a smart TV anymore.
So if you decide to have a separate subscription to Netflix, you’ll no longer be able to access it directly from your Sky Glass TV like you would for free on other smart TVs.
The only way would be to plug in a streaming device such as a Fire TV stick.
“If you don’t activate your Sky Glass TV, you’ll only be able to connect your other devices,” Sky’s site says.
“Access to TV apps like Netflix won’t be available.”
So if you’re thinking about going for Sky Glass this is an important bit to remember should you eventually leave.
If you’re unsure about whether you want to stick with Sky for the long haul, it might be better to go for Sky Stream instead.
You get the same experience as Sky Glass except you can plug it into any telly of you choice – and it’ll remain as smart as when you first bought it.
