Sky customers are just realising there’s a free hidden upgrade on their TV box

SKY has alerted customers that they can record up to six programmes at the same time, all while still watching the telly.

In a Twitter post last night, the broadcaster said Sky Q customers with 2TB and 1TB UHD boxes could automatically get the upgrade – much to their surprise.

It's important to note that this has to be done on the main box - and not the mini hubs you may have around the home

The Sky Q box gives viewers access to Sky’s premium TV service of the same name, as well as the ability to pause, rewind and record live TV.

Usually Sky Q customers can record up to five shows of their choice.

But viewers can change this number to six in just minutes.

Simply open up Settings > Setup > Preferences.

Change the maximum number of recordings to 6 and follow the on-screen instructions.

It’s important to note that this has to be done on the main box – and not the mini hubs you may have around the home.

Then you should be good to go.

With a 1TB UHD box you can store up to 150 hours of HD recordings.

Whereas with a Sky Q 2TB box, you can house up to 350 hours of HD recordings.

To see all your recordings, press Sky on your Sky Q remote, or click Home then scroll to Recordings.

If it’s not working, double check your box specifications.

You can do that via Sky’s website.

It would be an easy mistake to make – but make sure you have the 1TB UHD box, and not the 1TB box.

Sky Q’s 1TB box can only record up to three shows whilst watching a fourth live, so if you’re struggling to boost that number in Settings, you may have the wrong box.

If you want to upgrade your box, simply reach out to Sky’s customer service.
