Sky bills soar but there’s a cheaper way to get TV through your dish

If you use Sky then you’ll almost certainly find you’ll be paying more from tomorrow, April 1. The firm announced that it was hiking prices last month with most users seeing things go up by around 8.1 percent. Because of the way Sky increases costs, each user will face a different amount being added to their monthly outgoings.

That’s a lot of money to pay out in one go but once the device has been delivered you won’t face any extra charges. Considering the average Sky TV bill is around £35 – £40 per month it won’t take long to see a significant saving.

For those not aware, Freesat uses any existing satellite dishes drilled into the side of homes to bring hundreds of channels to TVs without paying any subscription fees.

Freesat boasts over 170 channels including BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and other services such as Dave, Sky Arts, Quest and Great! TV.

Of course, you won’t get premium services such as Sky Sports, Cinema or Sky Atlantic but if you can live without that content then it will reduce the monthly outgoings.

The new set-top box available via Freesat, features a 500GB hard disk which can store around 125 hours of content. It’s also 4K compatible for pin-sharp viewing and you can even record four shows at the same time.

If someone starts chatting during a vital moment in your favourite TV show the box can pause and rewind live telly and there’s also full access to the most popular on-demand services.

No, it’s not as comprehensive as Sky and yes you will have to stump up £200 in one go but over the course of the next 12 months there’s a significant saving to be made by considering the switch.
