Sixth Form just got upgraded – By Sayanen Sawmynaden, Tiffin School

Imagine a stuffy, cramped room filled with people your age, talking, laughing, eating and in the middle of it all is you, trying to reach the door that seems to be getting further and further away. With the increasing popularity of the Tiffin School sixth form and the rapid influx of new students, the recently constructed sixth form centre simply did not suffice for such a  large year group. As a result, it was extended.

How was this carried out? Well, the circular learning resource centre is located next to the sixth form centre. Previously, there was a library on the ground floor and the first floor had a large cavity in the centre for people to see the library from above. The outer rim that was left of the second floor was occupied by computers. The large cavity was filled in and the library was moved upstairs. The ground floor was then converted into a quiet study area, a silent study area and a meeting room (a social area and another silent study area already existed in the pre-revamped sixth form centre).

So the big question now is, was the extension effective? Armaan Khan, a member of the lower sixth form at Tiffin explained, “After the opening of the new sixth form centre, I still thoroughly utilised the social area to conduct and finish work with my friends. This was fine for small homeworks, tweaking online notes, and the such, however when it came to scenarios where I was more serious about the work I was doing (e.g. revision for tests), the new sixth form centre ultimately proved extremely useful. The comfortable open space, with minimal auditory distractions aided focus in whatever I was doing there, and is essentially never congested; so I can access the new sixth form centre whenever I wish. I believe it was an excellent investment made by the school for study purposes.”

With the students able to study efficiently and effectively during their independent study periods and sixth form life upgraded, Tiffin school will definitely continue to thrive.
