Sir Jim Ratcliffe moves to bring Graham Potter back into management
The Ligue 1 side are owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS, with the British billionaire busy in his pursuit of buying Manchester United while also searching out a new manager for Nice.
Former Middlesbrough midfielder Didier Digard has been in temporary charge of the club since January when Lucien Favre was sacked as manager after a French Cup defeat to Ligue 3 side Le Puy-en-Velay.
The 36-year-old is not set to remain in charge for next season, though, and Ratcliffe has reportedly turned to Potter to take over.
Foot Mercato report that there has already been two meetings between Nice and Potter’s representatives and that the Englishman is interested in the role, although is yet to make a decision.
Potter rose to prominence by managing abroad, taking Ostersund from the fourth tier of Swedish football to the top flight and Europa League.
He returned to the UK and has since managed Swansea, Brighton and Chelsea, all of which went well until a disastrous stint with the Blues this season.
The 47-year-old was appointed on 8 September last year and was sacked on 2 April after just 31 games in charge, 12 of which he won.
His stock has clearly not dropped dramatically, though, with Leicester approaching him to be their new manager just one day after he was ousted from Stamford Bridge.
Potter rejected that approach but may be more tempted by a return slightly away from the limelight in Ligue 1.
The French club have a number of recognisable faces to Premier League fans, including Kasper Schmeichel, Aaron Ramsey, Ross Barkley and Nicolas Pepe, who has spent the season on loan from Arsenal.
