Sinéad O’Connor seen smiling and laughing in last pictures months before death
Sinéad O’Connor was photographed smiling and laughing while celebrating her Classic Irish Album award win in March, in final pictures of the star before her death.
In a statement, the singer’s family announced the sad news today, just months after her last public photos were taken at the RTÉ Choice Music Prize in Dublin.
They said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.
“Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
The Nothing Compares 2 U hitmaker died at the age of just 56.
A few months before her death was confirmed, Sinéad was pictured on stage accepting the award for her album.
In the snaps, the star could be seen waving to fans and proudly receiving the award.
Sinéad wore a green blazer and black shirt as she took to the stage to collect the gong.
Prior to her happy appearance at the awards ceremony, she had been open and honest about her personal life.
The star had been candid about her spiritual journey, activism, socio-political views, and mental health struggles.
In 2003, Sinead told fans she had been diagnosed with both bipolar disorder and fibromyalgia.
In 2020, the singer announced that she’d entered rehab in order to work on her physical and mental health.
Earlier this month, Sinead O’Connor addressed her grief after losing her son Shane in January 2022.
In her final Twitter post before her death, she told fans she had been “living like an undead night creature” ever since the death of her son.
She added her son was the “love” of her life and “the only person who ever loved me unconditionally”.
The singer went on to say she felt “lost” without Shane.
