Simone Biles ‘bawled her eyes out’ after husband left for NFL training camp

Gymnastics great Simon Biles admitted she was “bawling her eyes out” as her husband left for training camp with his new team. Biles is married to NFL safety Jonathan Owens, who recently signed with the Green Bay Packers from free agency.

Owens had previously spent three seasons with the Houston Texans, who he joined in 2019 from the Arizona Cardinals. The 27-year-old was confirmed as a new addition to the Packers roster last week, a little under a month on from the 2023 NFL Draft.

Biles and Owens tied the knot last month in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and now the former Olympic champion has shared a heartwarming snap about her husband. On Monday, Biles posted on her Instagram story the day that Owens departed for the off-season training camp.

The post from the 26-year-old featured her taking a selfie in a car. Her caption read: “Bawled my eyes out this morning when Jonathan left for Green Bay”. While a separate caption added that she was “a mess”.

Owens will be one of a number of new recruits that will be part of the Packers’ roster for the 2023 season. Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst helped draft 13 new players last month, but also negotiated the high-profile exits of Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard.

New Packers safety Owens will be joined by edge Lukas Van Ness, tight end Luke Musgrave, wide receiver Jayden Reed, tight end Tucker Kraft, edge Colby Wooden, quarterback Sean Clifford, wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, defensive tackle Karl Brooks, kicker Anders Carlson, cornerback Carrington Valentine, running back Lew Nicols III, cornerback Anthony Johnson and wide receiver Grant Dubose.

After announcing that he had joined the Packers, Owens posted a snap on Instagram of himself and his wife as he signed his contract. In the caption he wrote: “New beginnings. Perfect cap to an amazing week. Let’s get to work. Year 6 on the way!!”

Biles also posted the same photo on Instagram of herself and Owens, with the former gymnast wearing a Packers sweatshirt. Her caption read: “Slight wedding content intermission to say GO PACK GO. So proud of you baby! Here’s to new beginnings! Year 6!”

Prior to signing for the Packers, Owens made 125 tackles in his 17 games with the Texans during the 2022 regular season. Biles, meanwhile, won four gold medals during the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, as well as a silver at Tokyo 2020 to go along with her 19 World Championship gold medals.
