Simon Cowell’s brother reveals how he supported him through secret cancer battle
The 73-year-old author is the older brother of the music mogul and secretly fought off stage two bladder cancer last year.
Revealing he is now in remission following an operation he had on the NHS and chemotherapy, Tony spoke out on how Simon was there for him during his difficult time.
He said: ‘I could hear he was extremely upset — I had to calm him down. He then switched and became Mr Helpful.’
The writer continued telling The Sun how he first realised there was something wrong and admitted he went straight to the GP after finding blood in his urine.
‘I went straight to my GP, who said it was a sign of bladder cancer,’ he explained. ‘I didn’t know what to say to Emma or my son Luke.’
Tony is married to fellow author Emma, 46, and understood he needed to see a doctor urgently after a trip with her to Greece.
Following his diagnosis, Emma – who was penning a novel about a character with cancer at the time – shared her experience.
She said: ‘I was halfway through the novel and I was talking to Tony about it and how the people were affected.
‘It is so deeply ironic then that a week later we were those characters.’
Tony then chimed in with: ‘Suddenly fiction looked like it was becoming fact.’
The author’s comments came after his brother Simon denied rumours he had had a facelift after Britain’s Got Talent hosts Ant and Dec made a sly quip at his visage.
While presenting the show, Dec, 47, turned to the audience and announced: ‘We have a new face joining the judging panel’ following which his fellow 47-year-old co-host jibbed: ‘What? Simon has a new face?’
Simon later addressed the comment and told The Mirror: ‘I think it’s hysterical. I mean, it just makes me laugh. I haven’t had a facelift or anything.
‘I’ve had a bit of Botox or whatever, but nothing drastic so when I hear about this stuff, honestly it does make me laugh.’
Metro.co.uk contacted Tony for comment.
