We’ve got nothing against Easter eggs here at Metro.co.uk, but having just taste-tested nearly 30(!) of them in the name of content, we’re well aware that they can get a little samey after a while.
The shops have been stuffed with them for months already, and now they’re filling every shelf and even taking the place of actual eggs!
We’re at peak Easter egg, people, and it’s time to try something new…
We’ve already rounded up the best Easter gifts out there for people who simply don’t like chocolate, but if you do enjoy the sweet stuff, and just don’t want it hard on your teeth and egg-shaped, then you’re in luck, because we’re obsessed with this range of alternative seasonal treats from The Bottled Baking Co.
There are delicious new chocolates and sweets available, but its seasonal showstopper is a brilliant twist on the company’s signature product – baking ingredients packed into a glass bottle, often with an extra treat on the side.
Fresh for the Easter Holidays, Chief Baker Greg Fraser and his trusty son have come up with a brand new GIANT cookie mix (£10.99). It’s super easy to assemble but doesn’t scrimp on size: one cookie can be broken into 22 slices, enough to keep all visiting family satisfied, even if the whole clan rocks up at your doorstep on Easter Sunday.
There’s also the Mini Eggs Cookie Mix (£10.99), a Cookies and Creme Muffin Mix (£10.99) and the White Chocolate and Raspberry Tray Bake Mix (£10.99) to tickle all sorts of sweet tooths.
This Leeds-based company is all about getting families baking together. Its central idea emerged in 2016, when founder Greg was looking for new ways to cook great food with his son.
His then three-year-old was obsessed with cartoon-branded baking boxes from the supermarket, but the blandness of their finished products had Greg pulling his hair out.
Greg suggested that father and son tried baking from scratch, popping all their ingredients in a bottle to avoid mess and make things easier.
‘Layering the ingredients in a bottle meant we could talk about what was going in to the mixture, plus shaking it all out was a lot of fun!’, he previously told the blog Don’t Buy Her Flowers.
The idea of ingredients handily arranged in a reusable bottle appealed to Greg, and he started a business around it. Since then, The Bottled Baking Co. has skyrocketed in popularity, and sales more than doubled during the Covid pandemic, as families embraced home baking together.
All the company’s goodies are still made in good ol’ Yorkshire, which is only sensible, as nowhere else in the UK knows as much about proper homely baking…
And all of Greg’s new recipes are subject to one of the most intimidating tests in the food industry: being sampled by Greg’s little one, who has shockingly good taste.
New products are also dished out to everyone else on Greg’s street, making The Bottled Baking Co. a true community business, full of the warmth.
It’s all been the journey of a lifetime for Greg, whose bottle bakes have been named Gift of the Year. He’s worked with Coca-Cola and Spotify, and now his handiwork is available in some of the country’s most iconic department stores, including John Lewis, Selfridges and Fenwick.
But his son is always there to keep him grounded, and make him smile, as he previously noted: ‘My son makes me laugh a lot, some of the things he says are hilarious.’
Plus we could all learn something from Greg’s chosen words to live by: ‘Stay Home, Eat Cake.’
Don’t mind if we do!
