Short on outdoor space? You can book a free ‘BBQ garden’ on the South Bank
Summer is finally nearly here, but not all of us are blessed with outdoor space to enjoy the sun.
Even if you do have a balcony, barbecuing is most likely off the agenda for safety reasons, and soggy sandwiches in the park just doesn’t have the same allure.
However, city-dwellers can get a taste of al fresco cooking and dining this June, thanks to a new Sainsbury’s pop-up.
The supermarket is launching a Book-a-BBQ Garden on London’s South Bank during National BBQ Week (Thursday June 1 – Saturday June 3), offering spots out to the nearly 15 million Brits who don’t have the space to host one.
It’s totally free to book, with each group of up to six people getting a 90-minute slot between 12pm and 8pm daily.
Guests will be welcomed with a Sainsbury’s summer food hamper and a hot Weber Spirit gas barbecue that’s ready to go, along with tools and experts offering advice to help you master the grill.
The hampers – which are free with your booking – feature a range of favourites like Taste the Difference Signature Beef Rib & Brisket Burgers and Smoked Honey, Orange and Chilli Chicken Mini Fillet Kebabs, as well as plant-based alternatives such as American-Style No Beef Burgers and Middle Eastern-Style Koftas.
Visitors can pick between three bundles worth at least £50 each, with side dishes like Greek Inspired Whipped Feta Salad and Patatas Bravas Potato Salad also included.
Plus, with a selection of delicious summery desserts and mouth-watering mocktails, the freebie bundles are filled with everything you’ll need to create a sizzling feast.
Ready to cement your status as king/queen of the grill?
The Book-a-BBQ Garden will be held from Thursday June 1 at Riverside Slice, South Bank, London, SE1 9PP.
Book your free tickets via DesignMyNight here (a £5 booking deposit will be taken, which will be refunded providing the booking is fulfilled).
Claire Hughes, Director of Product & Innovation at Sainsbury’s commented: ‘Summer is a time for celebration and getting together with friends and family to enjoy delicious food. But for those who don’t have access to outside space at home, that doesn’t mean they should miss out.
‘That’s why we’ve launched the Sainsbury’s Book-a-BBQ Garden, keeping food at the heart of it, as we make it our mission to ensure even those without their own outdoor area can still enjoy the season’s smoky, BBQ flavours.’
