Hydration is key to staying focused and energised and when a glass of water isn’t going to cut it we might need an extra helping hand. Step forward this powder that claims to make you hydrated AF.

The powered supplement Cellular Hydration, by ARTAH, contains magnesium and potassium, both electrolytes that can help improve a person’s mood and nervous system, and apparently are often insufficient in today’s diet.

It also has a ‘high dose of’ Peruvian maca root, traditionally taken to boost mood and libido.

So, naturally, we had to try it, right?

The brand claims its sugar and sweetener-free supplement can also help your body adapt to stress, improve physical performance during exercise, hydrate your skin and make a hangover a little less horrendous.

You can take Cellular Hydration when you want, but the brand says first thing in the morning is great for replenishing electrolytes lost overnight, before or during a workout helps sustain energy, post-workout aids recovery, between meals keeps you focused and energised and after drinking alcohol can tackle those hangover symptoms.

Supplements don’t always live up to their claims but the reviews online for the powder are good.

One delighted shopper wrote: ‘This stuff is fantastic – was very sceptical but it actually works, gives energy and really also helps with a hangover.’

Another added: ‘Thought it would be another let down product but it really works! I am mega exhausted with peri-meno, lack of sleep, stressful job etc and this seems to help. Have even started sharing with hubby who says the same. Will repeat buy for sure.’

‘I can’t be without this powder, it’s my pick me up and wake me up magic potion on daily basis! I took with me ok business travel recently which was very tiring but I couldn’t deliver without cellular hydration, it works instantly and I use it before/ during/ after my workouts too! It’s best hydration powder I’ve discovered!!’ one write, while another enthused: ‘Love this product. I use it throughout the morning and find it really helps regulate snackiness and sugar cravings. I keep one bag at work and one at home so it’s always on hand.’

Powdered supplements aren’t generally known for tasting that great, but quite a few reviewers said they were pleasantly surprised on this front (some say it’s lemony – however our reviewer begs to differ…).

Metro tries Artah’s Cellular Hydration

Mel says: ‘I am the first to admit I am utterly rubbish when it comes to staying hydrated. I may be my own worst enemy in filling up my drink bottle (which, consequently, sits next to me empty as I type this) and often find myself only realising I’ve had hardly a glass of water til lunchtime, when the inevitable dehydration headache and dry lips appear.

‘It doesn’t help that I’ll go to the gym and work up a sweat, meaning I’m often doubly dehydrated. Please refer to ‘own worst enemy’ comment above.

‘On first taste, I have to admit, those reviewers who say this powder is delicious have some seriously warped taste buds. I’m a fan of a sour lolly or two, but I feel like this powder hits a whole new set of taste buds I was not expecting – not necessarily in a good way. It’s an… acquired taste.

‘One day I tried to add the powder with my protein shake, to see if I could multitask my drinking, and found it *really* didn’t mix well on a flavour-front, so I now stick with cold water and try to drink it fast to get the job done because I’m not here for a good time, I’m here for a hydrated time.

‘While I haven’t experienced a new spring in my step simply by downing a drink bottle of powdered water, I definitely notice I’m dehydrated on the days I’ve *not* had the powder.

‘Granted, I’m yet to try it on a hangover, so the jury is out on whether it helps there for me.

‘Still, on the days I remember to drink it (again, refer to above points), I have found I’ve got less of a foggy head come 3pm and am more focused, as well, so while the taste isn’t a pick-me-up, it appears to do its job on the hydration front.

‘Or it simply startles me into clarity and stuns my dehydration-related symptoms into submission.’

‘Either way, I’ll take it.’
