Shocking moment boy racer ploughs into 90-year-old royal gates in Regent’s Park

A SHOCKING video on Instagram shows how an illegal drag race turned ugly in Regents Park.

In what looks to be a race between a BMW 4 Series and Nissan Skyline, the BMW quickly runs out of road, ploughing into the ancient gates.

Judging by the gates’ design, the illegal race is taking place on Chester Road, which connects the park’s Inner and Outer Circle roads.

Within the Inner Circle is the Queen Mary’s Rose Gardens, which has two sets of ornate gates at its entrances.

These are Grade II listed and were donated by Sigimund Goetze, a wealthy and successful artist who lived in Grove House (now Nuffield House) on the northern perimeter of the park from 1909 to 1939.

The were presented in 1932 to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of King George V.

In the video which was uploaded last year but has resurfaced this week the cars can be seen racing a speed along Chester Road towards the Inner Circle of the park.

While the Nissan begins to slow down, it appears the BMW doesn’t have the same braking power or simply fails to judge the turn.

Despite the driver’s effort and comical deployment of the indicator, the car simply understeers across the pavement ahead and smashes into the gate amid a lot of tyre squealing.

Various onlookers can’t believe what they are seeing and despite the BMW’s airbags going off the driver jumps out and looks to be OK but overwhelmed by shock.

Meanwhile the Nissan makes the right turn and carries on around the corner along the Inner Circle before coming to a stop.

The person shooting the video can be heard repeatedly saying: “Oh my days” also in complete shock at what they’ve just witnessed.

People were quick to mock the BMW in the comments.
