Shock jock’s explosive Covid claim
A radio shock jock has aired a bold claim about the unvaccinated as 268 new local Covid-19 cases were recorded in NSW.
The NSW government is considering scrapping the December 1 opening date for unvaccinated people, according to a Sydney radio host.
The claim, revealed by broadcaster Ray Hadley on Friday morning, comes after health authorities confirmed 93.4 per cent of people aged 16 and older had received their first jab.
Another 86.5 per cent of people aged 16 and over have been fully vaccinated.
Two deaths – a woman in her 90s and a man in his 70s – were recorded overnight.
Former premier Gladys Berejiklian set December 1 as an “opening date” for unvaccinated people to begin enjoying the same freedoms as those who have received both jabs.
But Hadley on Friday claimed “discussions” were under way to scrap that date in favour of a reopening for unvaccinated people when the state hits a double dose rate of 95 per cent.
He claimed a decision would be made “next week” that unvaccinated people would not be allowed into the community “until we all get to 95 per cent (double dose) across NSW”.
But authorities have said no decision has been made.
“What it would mean is the hesitant, and even the stupid, would think, ‘Oh if I want to go somewhere at Christmas I better get vaccinated’,” Mr Hadley told his listeners.
“(Dominic) Perrottet’s got a big decision to make next week, aided by his cabinet and MPs.
“Having spoken to a few this morning, they think we’re right: 95 per cent should be the figure, not the 90 per cent and first of December named by the former premier.”
