Shaquil Barrett shares emotional tribute to late 2-year-old daughter: ‘I miss you so much’
Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett shared an emotional tribute Wednesday to his 2-year-old daughter, who tragically drowned in the family’s swimming pool on April 30.
In a video posted on Instagram, the NFL pro can be seen holding daughter Arrayah while instructing the toddler to blow kisses to her mother, Barrett’s wife Jordanna.
“I miss you sooo much baby girl. I love you please watch over us,” Barrett captioned the heartbreaking clip.
Arrayah was one of Barrett’s four children with Jordanna, who later responded to her husband’s post, “We love you forever and ever babygirl until we meet again my baby!”
The Tampa Bay Police Department responded to a call before 9:30 a.m. on April 30, about a child who had fallen into a pool, The Tampa Bay Times reported.
Arrayah was then transported to a local hospital, and although lifesaving measures were enacted, she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival, according to the publication.
Authorities said in a statement at the time while the investigation is still ongoing, it is believed to have been purely accidental and a tragic incident.
In the wake of the devastating incident, the Buccaneers organization extended their deepest sympathies to the Barrett family.
“Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time,” the statement read.
“While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.”
Members of the NFL community have continued to rally in support of Barrett and his family, including the athlete’s former Tampa Bay teammate, Tom Brady.
The recently retired quarterback not only posted a heartfelt message to Barrett shortly after Arrayah’s death, but he also commented on the linebacker’s video Wednesday, writing, “Love you.”
Earlier this week, Jordanna revealed she got a tattoo in honor of Arrayah, People reported.
The Barretts celebrated Arrayah’s second birthday in April.
