Shang-Chi 2: Simu Liu sequel given first details from Kevin Feige and director
Last weekend the newest Marvel hero Shang-Chi was introduced in his debut film, The Legend of the Ten Rings. The movie not only invited viewers to witness the birth of a new Avenger, but also teased the future of the character’s expanding story. Going forward, the MCU and Disney boss Feige has given the first details of what may become Shang-Chi 2.
Feige is known for being extremely vague in his interviews and his comments about Shang-Chi 2 do not buck this trend.
When asked if he envisioned Shang-Chi to become a trilogy, he replied: “We always make a movie with the intention of trying to make it well enough that people are very interested to see more stories. And if they are, then we’ll tell more.” (Via Collider)
While that certainly isn’t a “no”, it also doesn’t reveal much about the future of the Master of Kung Fu.
Feige did deliver some hope to fans, however. In another interview he confessed: “The early reactions to the characters and to [Shang-Chi] itself gives me great hope that people will want to see more of these characters.” (Via Comic Book)

Feige continued: “We certainly have many ideas of where to take them and where to put them.
“What’s so fun, we know the movie’s working when it’s not just the title character that people ask about, but it is the co-stars or the supporting players that people ask about. And in this movie in particular, that’s heartening because we think they’re spectacular, and we think they have great potential in the future.”
The Marvel boss isn’t the only person in the company who is hopeful for the future of the franchise.
Director of Shang-Chi, Destin Daniel Cretton, also recently spoke out about the series’ continuation.
Despite the fact Shang-Chi has only been out for a few days, it has already begun breaking box office records.
The movie was given a relatively meagre $150 million budget but has already made more than $83 million in the first weekend.
It has also gone on to break the Labor Day weekend box office record by earning more than $30 million.
A Shang-Chi 2 could spark a brand new storyline for the titular hero, however, involving a raunchy romance.
In a recent interview, Simu Liu explained how his character might embark on a love affair with his best friend, Katy (Awkwafina).
He said: “I think Shaun and Katy have a really wonderful relationship where they support each other, where they love each other in their way, and they have this carefree energy where they can really, truly be themselves around each other.” (Via The CS Network)
The Chinese-Canadian star added: “Whether that’s romantic or not… that’s not necessarily up for me to decide.”
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is in cinemas now.
