Shaktimaan’s First Teaser and Movie Trilogy Announced by Sony Pictures, India

Sony Pictures announced that it’s set to bring alive Shaktimaan for the big screens. While nothing has been revealed about the cast or director, the film is set to be a trilogy. Sony Pictures India announced the new film trilogy on Thursday and fans will be treated a trilogy based on Indian superhero Shaktimaan.
The short clip shows a glimpse of Earth and then a busy street. The scene is then replaced with the words, “As darkness and evil prevail over humanity, it’s time for him to return”. Then, the Shaktimaan symbol lights up the screen and we get a short glimpse of our retro superhero. While the face of Shaktimaan has not been revealed, producers gave us a sneak peek of ‘India’s most popular and loved superhero’. The costume and physique of the ‘India’s hero’ seem to have evolved from it’s origins.
The original Shaktimaan TV series had aired for eight years on Door Darshan National, between 1997 till 2005. Sony Pictures India have also partnered with the show’s original producer Mukesh Khanna’s Bheeshm International and Brewing Thoughts for the upcoming movies. Khanna had played the role of Shaktimaan in the original series, and his alter ego, Pandit Gangadhar Shastri, a humble, unsuspecting man.

In a statement, Sony Pictures International Productions shared that they have acquired the film adaptation rights of Shaktimaan to reimagine it as a superhero trilogy for the big screen. The film’s cast has not been announced yet and the choice of director is yet to be revealed.
Shaktimaan will be Sony Pictures India’s first entry in the Indian superhero market, and the studio says it will seek out the expertise from its parent company Sony Pictures Entertainment and its headquarters in Culver City, California, US, for access the latest technology in movie-making and post-production. Fingers crossed that this homage won’t disappoint!
