Seven leaker found after investigation
A company investigation into the rogue employee behind leaked footage of 7 News stars Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor sledging Novak Djokovic has been tied up at last.
The culprit behind leaked footage of Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor savaging world tennis number one Novak Djokovic has been found after a three-day investigation.
On Wednesday, a video of the pair chatting casually before their bulletin and calling Djokovic an “a***hole” amid his legal stoush with the Australian government went viral, sending the Seven network into overdrive as they tried to track down the perpetrator.
Now, Ai-Media Technologies Limited, the company that provides the captioning service for Channel 7, has confirmed one of its employees was responsible.
Seven were led to the caption company after identifying a time stamp in the footage not available on the network’s own feed.
Ai-Media confirmed “appropriate action” had been taken against the employee for the brazen act, assuring Seven that steps had been taken to avoid embarrassing leaks in the future.
“As a result of the investigation, Ai-Media has identified that an employee working remotely due to the COVID-19 outbreak was responsible for the unauthorised distribution of the content,” a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange read.
“Appropriate action has been taken with regard to the employee responsible.”
Ai-Media CEO Tony Abrahams added: “We are Australia’s leading provider of captioning services and we understand the importance of our work in making media accessible and inclusive to a wider audience, while safeguarding the confidential information of our customers.
“We have long standing and strong relationships within the media industry in Australia, and value our relationship with the Seven Network with whom we have been working with for over five years.
“This is the first such incident in Ai-Media’s 19-year history and enhanced controls have since been implemented to ensure it cannot be repeated.”
It comes after the footage made global headlines and was even aired by US television star Jimmy Kimmel on his popular night time talk show.
While Seven bosses said Maddern had apologised privately for the exchange, neither has addressed the incident on air.
