Entering the fourth matchday of the season, there are still three perfect teams in the 2021-22 Italian Serie A season: AS Roma, AC Milan and Napoli will put those unblemished records on the line this weekend as all three hit the road.
Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma (1st, 9pts) has the best chance to maintain its spot atop the standings with a trip to point-less Verona (19th, 0pts), which canned its coach this week after three losses to start the season. Napoli (3rd, 9pts) will have a tougher matchup as it contends with an Udinese (5th, 7pts) side that is off to a strong start and will be rested, while Napoli is coming off a Thursday Europa League match against Leicester City.
AC Milan (2nd, 9pts) is involved in the marquee matchup of the Serie A weekend when it travels to Turin on Sunday for a heavyweight clash against Juventus (16th, 1pt) which is hoping to get its Serie A campaign back on track after a tough start. Juve’s convincing 3-0 Champions League road win at Malmo FF on Tuesday should give it some momentum heading into this one. Meanwhile, AC Milan lost its opening Champions League match 3-2 in Liverpool, but it also has Serie A title aspirations which would be boosted significantly with a road victory against one of the chief preseason contenders.

The likes of Inter Milan (4th, 7pts), Lazio (7th, 6pts), Fiorentina (8th, 6pts) and Atalanta (10th, 4pts) will be rooting for a draw in that Juve-Milan game in the hope they can make up some ground in the standings. As the only one of the four teams without European obligations in midweek, Fiorentina will be the most well-rested of that foursome.
At the bottom of the table and the race to avoid relegation, there are two matches that stand out in Matchday 4: after notching its first win last weekend, Venezia (14th, 3pts) and its North American contingent play a must-have home game against Spezia (18th, 1pt), while Empoli (12th, 3pts) will like its spot in midtable and hopes to pick up some more points at home against a Sampdoria side (15th, 2pts) which held Inter Milan to a draw last week.

The 2021-22 Italian Serie A season is the first league campaign to be carried exclusively by CBS Sports through its CBS Sports Network linear TV channel and the Paramount+ streaming platform. All 380 Serie A matches will be streamed on Paramount+.
The network will also produce pregame and postgame studio shows titled “Calcio e Cappuccino” (“Football and Cappuccino”) around select matches.
