Serena Williams shares high tea with daughter Olympia, 4, after Wimbledon loss
The tennis ace has seemingly stayed in London since her surprise early exit from the tournament at the hands of French player Harmony Tan at the end of June.
Sharing an adorable family snap of a trip to popular Mayfair tea room Sketch, as well as a date night to the Thor: Love and Thunder London premiere for Serena and her husband, Reddit founder and tech investor Alexis Ohanian, the 40-year-old then took their daughter out for tea with friends.
She posted a snap of them together on her Instagram on Saturday, with Serena in a Breton striped dress and Olympia in a red poppy print dress, sitting on chairs in front of a painted background.
‘@olympiaohanian loves her afternoon tea and cheering for mama,’ she wrote, adding the hashtag ‘#PinkiesUp’.
Posting a video of their spread of sandwiches, cakes, scones and champagne, the athlete put on her best English accent and said: ‘High tea in England. Lovely crumpets and biscuits and jam and butter and – oh, cucumber sandwiches, yay!’
She then shared a sweet clip of Olympia in the car, chanting ‘Se-re-NA’ as she adorably showed herself to be her mum’s biggest fan.
Serena and her family have clearly been making the most of their time in the capital, following her devastating loss to Tan more than a week ago, her third ever first-round loss at a grand slam in a professional career spanning 27 years and counting.
She refused to rule out a return to Wimbledon next year in the aftermath of her loss.
‘Like I said coming into this, I’m just planning for right now, seeing how I feel, just to go from there,’ she said.
Pressed on whether it was her farewell to the All England Club, the 23-time grand slam singles champion added: ‘That’s a question I can’t answer. I don’t know. Who knows? Who knows where I’ll pop up.’
Taking to social media following her championship exit, Serena wrote: ‘That was insane and intense. Not the result I came for, but my goodness I enjoyed that. I hope you did as well. Onward and up. ☺️☺️’
