See the overgrown F1 track abandoned 10 years ago that’s open to the public

AN F1 track that was abandoned and is slowly returning to nature has been revealed in amazing images.

But this isn’t an old track shut down in the 1950s; the owners only moved out in 2012 after allegations of corruption.

Valencia featured on the F1 calendar for five years, but the original deal was for seven years of racing.

YouTuber Matt Amys visited the site and his video explains that the races scheduled for 2013 and 2014 never happened.

Apparently, so much money was spent in the first five years that there was none left for the final two races.

There are also allegations of corruption with the owners signing false contracts to make money on the side, resulting in lawsuits.

After its doors closed in 2012, a 300,000 square-metre site was left to return to nature.

Today, while you can’t drive on the site, the public is free to roam around it on foot.

Amys’ video shows incredible images of the track, complete with apex curbs, barriers and painted run-off areas.

Some of the site has been converted to public walkways but a decent proportion is pretty much as it was back in 2012.

Now, an investment group is working with Valencia City hall to transform the site.

Plans have been drawn up for the entire space to be turned into housing, featuring massive flat blocks.

So if you’re an F1 fan, you’ll need to be quick if you want to walk the track that some of the biggest names in the sport have raced on.
