Secret Invasion: Marvel Gives Extended Look at ‘Spy Versus Spy’ Thriller

Marvel has released a featurette for upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion which shares a handful of new clips and promises of a tense “spy versus spy” thriller.

Shared in a tweet from Marvel Studios (below), the two-minute plus clip features commentary from Secret Invasion’s cast including Samuel L. Jackson (who plays Nick Fury) and Cobie Smulders (who plays Maria Hill) who offer insight into the series’ darker and grittier tone.

“Nick comes back having lost whatever power he had before,” said Jackson. “So we try and solve things without being too superhuman.” Smulders added to this by saying: “We get to jump into Nick Fury’s world which is very spy versus spy”.

Talos actor Ben Mendelsohn also alluded to Secret Invasion’s more down to earth approach, saying “the kind of grittiness, the locations, the way it feels, [and] the way it’s written” definitely make it more thriller than superhero flick.

Emilia Clarke, Ali Selim, Olivia Colman, and Don Cheadle also make an appearance in the featurette, both in official clips and behind the scenes interviews.

Secret Invasion is just over a month away as it premieres on Disney+ on June 21 this year. Only one full trailer has been released so far, which showed Fury’s return to earth for “one last fight”.
