Search on for new PLDT brass

MANILA  -PLDT Inc. is set to introduce new key officials in three months or less to take over the roles in several departments recently vacated by senior company members who took early retirement and tendered voluntary resignation amid a multibillion budget mess.

Al Panlilio, president of the telco giant, said they would be holding a meeting soon for the nomination committee, which is chaired by PLDT top honcho Manuel Pangilinan, to name the replacements soon or “not more than a quarter.”

“[The nomination] goes through the committee and it is brought up to the board for final approval,” he told the reporters on the sidelines of a recent event in Makati City.

Last week, the Pangilinan-led company announced the departure of chief financial officer Annabelle Chua, chief procurement officer Mary Rose dela Paz and network head Mario Tamayo. The telco player did not specify if these were related to the budget mess.

The telco player has designated officers in charge in the mean time. PLDT group controller Danny Yu was tasked to handle finance; first vice president Bernadette Salinas, supply chain management, and first vice president and deputy network head Roderick Santiago, network.

CreditSights previously said the “sudden loss” of the senior officers could “induce short-to-medium term operational challenges.”

“We think day-to-day operations of the company could be hampered, strategic directions could be less clear, and execution risks of ongoing projects could be higher,” the Fitch Group unit explained.

But Panlilio expressed confidence that the remaining company officials could carry on and handle the daily tasks at hand. INQ
