Sean Dyche sends Wout Weghorst warning to Man Utd ahead of Burnley

Sean Dyche has warned Manchester United of the threat they’ll face from new Burnley signing Wout Weghorst at Turf Moor tomorrow night.

United head to the Premier League’s bottom side looking to put the memories of their FA Cup exit behind them, and focus back on the race for the Premier League’s top four.

On paper, it should be the perfect opportunity for Ralf Rangnick’s men to get back on the horse after their chastening defeat to Middlesbrough, but games are rarely easy at Burnley, and they boast their new frontman who is hoped can steer them away from danger.

Weghorst arrived at Turf Moor on deadline day of the January window boasting an impressive Bundesliga scoring record from his days at Wolfsburg.

He made his debut for his new club on Saturday as Burnley were held to a goalless draw by Watford, with Weghorst struggling to find his rhythm.

But Dyche expects his new frontman to find his feet soon and form a cohesive partnership with Maxwel Cornet, which he hopes can pile the misery on United tomorrow.

Reflecting on Weghorst’s debut, Dyche said: “I think Wout did really well. It’s not easy to come into a group, he’s accepted what the group are about.

“He’ll give us hold up play, he’ll give us quality and as he gets used to the tempo of the Premier League, when he gets his eye in, I think he’ll do well.

“Maxwel came in late, had a couple of extra days off, so he’s going to get sharper, his awareness of playing with a different striker, who deals with the ball well and can hold it up well.

“A couple of chances you would fancy him to take when he settles but I’m sure he will very quickly.

“He’s had a quiet game by his standards but we didn’t expect miracles from him. He will get that sharpness.

“We know how much of a good player he is.”

United head into Tuesday’s clash in desperate need of a response after hitting another low in their disappointing season against Middlesbrough in the cup.

They currently hold the advantage in the race for fourth in the Premier League, but know any kind of slip-up could let West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham in, with all three of their rivals also playing in midweek.
