Scottish Power announces new system which could help you save £276

Energy company Scottish Power has announced a new smart thermostat system for heating, in partnership with tado°, that customers can install to help them save on bills.

The advanced smart meter technology, which Scottish Power customers can pick up at a discounted rate of 25 percent, is said to be able to sense when windows are left open or when people leave the house, in order to control heating temperatures in the home.

Scottish Power customers who make use of the system may be able to save over 20 percent on their energy bills, equating to around £267 on average, according to tado°.

Chris Carberry, Scottish Power’s smart solutions director, said: “At Scottish Power, we’re at the forefront of the changing world of energy and know that, by adopting smart technologies like this, our customers can take control of their own carbon emissions, reduce energy wastage and lower their energy bills.

“Being more energy efficient can make a big difference I’m delighted ScottishPower is partnering with tado° to help our customers take advantage of the quick wins this advanced technology can bring, both for the environment and household budgets.”

The smart thermostat system can tell when a person leaves home via a linked smartphone app, after which it can then turn the heating down or off, and then back on again when they return.

It can also check in on the weather and make sure homes use less energy when the sun is out and naturally warming up rooms.

It also registers when windows have been left open and can turn the heating off to stop energy from being wasted.

Anthony Munn, sales director for UK&I at tado° added: “Scottish Power is helping homes across the UK to use energy more efficiently and effectively. We’re really proud to be bringing our tado° Smart Thermostats to their customers at a 25 percent discount, so Scottish Power customers can lower their bills even further.

“On a Scottish Power tariff, using a tado° smart thermostat saves £267 per year on average, which is 22 percent on heating costs.”

According to the firms, the tado° Smart Thermostats are compatible with all common heating systems and can be easily installed at home in around 30 minutes.

The associated smartphone app allows homeowners to see usage patterns on their energy consumption, better understand how they consume energy, and see which rooms have a higher demand for heat than others.

The system can also be controlled via smart systems like Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home. With the 25 percent discount applied for Scottish Power customers, the costs for tado° smart products include:

  • £149.99 (RRP £199.99) Wireless Smart Thermostat Starter Kit V3+ with Hot Water Control
