Janey Godley has undergone surgery to have a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with cancer, after her operation was delayed after she caught coronavirus.

The Scottish comedian, 60, previously revealed that she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and would need to undergo a full hysterectomy as part of her treatment.

Janey’s daughter Ashley Storrie took to her mother’s Twitter account after the operation to reassure fans that it had all gone well.

She tweeted: ‘It’s @Ashleystorrie here. Mum is out of surgery and is in recovery. Her time in the operating theatre went relatively well, and a full hysterectomy was achieved. Bunty has left the building. Thank you so much for all your kind words, positive thoughts and prayers.’

Ashley later updated: ‘It’s @ashleystorrie again. Now that we’ve had a moment to breathe at the top of this hill, I’d just like to say how appreciative my whole family are for the NHS.

‘Thank you, sincerely and wholeheartedly, to all the amazing people who are looking after my mother.

‘I just spoke to mum on the phone. Her voice was weak but her spirit seemed strong. I was so very relieved to hear her. Thank you again for all the kind messages and words.’

Sharing a photo Janey had sent her with an oxygen mask on as she gave the camera a thumbs up, Ashley added: ‘never have I been happier to receive a series of shonky selfies from my mother. #BuntyHasLeftTheBuilding -Ashley.’

Janey had revealed at the end of November that her hysterectomy had been pushed back seven weeks after she tested positive for coronavirus.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly via video call, she said at the time: ‘I haven’t really had time to process it. I’m fine, bizarrely, I’m the healthiest in the house. I’ve been more worried about them than this.

‘You never prepare yourself for someone saying we’ve discovered cancer… I can’t have the op for seven weeks because of the Covid.’
