Scary sign Patty Mills is ‘getting better’

Patty Mills is continuing to dominate for NBA contenders the Brooklyn Nets and the Aussie veteran is in career-best form.

It was the fourth game in five that Mills clocked double figures, notching 17 points and three assists as the Nets ran out 117-112 victors.

Mills was the third-highest scorer for the Nets behind Kevin Durant’s haul of 27 and LaMarcus Aldridge’s 21.

The Boomers skipper’s scoring streak also puts him on the path to some seriously elite numbers.

Against the Cavaliers, Mills nailed five three-pointers from nine attempts and his teammates made a concerted effort to get the ball in his hands.

Across the season so far, Mills’ is shooting from beyond the arc at an accuracy of 48.6 per cent. Any player shooting three-pointers at 40 per cent or better is considered seriously elite.

Last season for the San Antonio Spurs, Mills enjoyed a career-high 161 threes. This season he already has 51 three-pointers to his name.

If he keeps this pace up, he’s be on track for almost 250 threes by the time the season is done.

The win moves the Nets to a 13-5 record as Steve Nash’s side fight tooth and nail with the Chicago Bulls at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Mills’ sharpshooting has seen him elevated to the Nets’ starting line-up in recent games and he has emerged as a key piece in the jigsaw as Brooklyn’s star-studded team seeks to win its first ever NBA title.

The 33-year-old was again in Brooklyn’s starting five against Cleveland and played 35 minutes of game time in a sign coach Nash has huge confidence in Mills’ ability to hit the scoreboard.

Former Boomers star Chris Anstey was pleased to see Mills at the focus on Brooklyn’s offense, tweeting: “Patty Mills as a priority scoring option for the @BrooklynNets is fun!”
