‘Scary’: Buckley collapses on I’m a Celeb

AFL legend Nathan Buckley sent a scare through his fellow contestants when he suddenly collapsed on a reality TV show.

AFL legend Nathan Buckley left his fellow contestants worried after he fainted in “scary” scenes on Thursday night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here.

The former Collingwood player and coach was seen struggling feeling ill, before getting up to walk to the toilet.

Buckley, flanked by fellow campmates Poh Ling Yeow and Maria Thattil, then drops his hat before collapsing to the ground as Thattil grabs him screaming, “Oh my god!”.

Thattil yells, “Guys help, can we please get a medic! He’s just fainted!”.

Two crew members then rush by his side before paging a team of medics, saying, “Tell them it’s urgent”.

Buckley appeared to black out for a few moments before regaining consciousness.

When asked by the crew members how he was feeling, he responded: “I’m fine. Did I collapse, did I?

“I have had that light-headed stuff before when I get up quick. I think that’s what (that was).”

The 49-year-old was taken to the medical hut for attention before getting the all clear to return to the camp shortly afterwards.

“That was solid,” Buckley said when he joined the other contestants back at the camp.

“I’ve never fainted before. That was full on. I had cramps in my gut, and it just got bad. I couldn’t get comfortable. The pain was just building and building and I was sweating bullets.

“It’s low blood sugar, which is standard for me, low heart rate, which is standard for me. I get a bit of light-headedness when I get up quickly even in my normal life. And then because I’ve got cramps, that brings your heart rate down again and then it gets to a point where you’ve gone under threshold.”

The former Brownlow medallist insisted he was feeling completely fine and all he needed was a couple of jelly beans to get his blood sugar up.

“I’m feeling cherry ripe and everyone thinks it’s because I’m trying to be tough but I genuinely feel 100 per cent,” he said.

“I accepted two jelly beans to get the bloody sugar back up.”

Buckley fainting sent a scare through the other celebrities, who were genuinely concerned he had suffered a serious medical episode.

“It was just scary, he went white as a ghost,” Thattil, Miss Universe Australia 2020, said.

“He’s just so, like, tough, and he’s always looking after all of us. Really upsetting to see him like that.

“It was scary to see. He’s just such a big tough guy.”

MasterChef legend Ling Yeow said: “He collapsed and for a minute I thought he was having a heart attack because his eyes rolled over.”

“It felt devastating because we didn’t know if he was seriously injured or how ill he was. It was just feeling helpless,” comedian Cal Wilson said.

Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm added: “I think you can see just how much Nathan means to this camp. He literally is the dad here. He looks after everyone.”

Former NRL star Beau Ryan was thankful Buckley didn’t require further attention.

“Everyone was relieved,” he said.

“I was relieved. I knew he’d be OK but just to see him back … we’ve only been here a short time but we all do love each other.”

Buckley said seeing the reaction of other contestants when he returned to the camp reinforced how scary him fainting was for them.

“Coming back into the camp and having gone through that and to see that it shook a few was probably the worst bit of it,” he said.
