Savvy Games Acquires Scopely for $4.9 Billion
Mobile games company Scopely has been acquired by Savvy Games Group in a deal worth $4.9 billion.
The former is known for its wide collection of mobile titles such as The Walking Dead: Road to Survival, Star Trek Fleet Command, Yahtzee With Buddies, WWE Champions, Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem, Marvel Strike Force,
Scrabble GO, and more.
The mobile game makers have confirmed its acquisition in a recent blog post from Javier Ferreira and Walter Driver. The company has been bought by Savvy Games Group, which is owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).
The PIF has been rampant with its expansion into the video gaming world. The company already has stakes in Nintendo, Activision Blizzard, and Tencent. Along with that, the PIF has also acquired esports brands such as ESL and FACEIT.
Following the acquisition of Scopely, the mobile game developers will remain an autonomous operating company under the ownership of Savvy Games Group. The company will continue to be led by Ferreira and Driver.
“Scopely has proven to be an exceptional leader and will continue to revolutionize the future of games for years to come,” said Brian Ward, CEO of Savvy Games Group on the acquisition. “We look forward to further accelerating the company’s ambitions and working together with their talented team of developers, designers, and publishers to create innovative and exciting new products for the gaming community across the world.”
