Saquon Barkley shows his versatility in impressive day at Giants camp
Observations from Giants training camp on Sunday.
Power Player
Old-school minds who have called for RB Saquon Barkley to pound the ball between the tackles would’ve been happy as he churned his legs to move the pile during a practice heavy on red-zone run drills. He still showed his trademark bounce to the edge, however, and seemed to once strike a Nike “Jumpman” pose as he crossed the goal line.
Tangled Webb
No. 3 QB Davis Webb — who figures to play heavily Thursday in the preseason opener — committed the only red-zone turnover of the day when he threw a high pass in the end zone that was intercepted and returned for a big gain by Nate Meadors. The safety was claimed off waivers from the Browns on Thursday.
Caught My Eye
LT Andrew Thomas’ limp — a regular sight during OTAs that disappeared before training camp — returned after he got rolled up on during team drills. He didn’t miss any snaps, but it’s a reminder that the Giants’ best offensive lineman had offseason ankle surgery. Thomas’ primary individual goal this season is to stay healthy.
Medical Report
WR Kadarius Toney was held out of team drills for the third time as his workload is managed. TE Ricky Seals-Jones, CB Rodarius Williams and WR David Sills remain sidelined by injuries and were joined by LB Carter Coughlin.
