Sanjay Dutt reflects on what made Khalnayak a classic as the film completes 30 years
Khalnayak completes 30 years since its release today. The movie arrived in theatres on June 15, 1993. Directed by Subhash Ghai, the film featured Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff. On the anniversary of its release, Dutt penned a note thanking Ghai.
Sanjay Dutt took to his social media handles to share a video to mark the date. He wrote, “I want to congratulate Subhashji one of the greatest directors of the Indian screen, Jackie dada for being the perfect Ram and Madhuri for being Ganga, and the entire cast and crew of #Khalnayak, I am grateful and proud to be a part of such an iconic film, and cherish every moment of it. 30 years and yet it looks like a film made yesterday, thank you Subhash Ji and Mukta Arts for making this film and me being a part of it, thank you once again. And thank you to all the fans whose love has made Khalnayak a classic. #30YearsOfKhalnayak.”

The now-iconic Khalnayak dropped around the time Sanjay Dutt was arrested. The film saw the actor play the titular villain.
The film’s track Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai became iconic and is still known as one of Madhuri’s finest dance numbers.
Talks of a Khalnayak sequel did the rounds back in 2020 but the plans did not materialise.
