TL;DR

  • A report claims Samsung will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip on all Galaxy S23 models globally.
  • Rumor suggests that Samsung will continue to rely on Snapdragon until it’s done developing its own chip.

Thanks to numerous leaks and rumors, it’s already expected that Samsung will stray away from using its Exynos processor on the Galaxy S23 series in favor of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip. However, a new report claims Samsung may continue down this path for other flagships as well.

According to the publication Daum, Samsung plans to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip in all global models of the Galaxy S23 lineup. This may not come as a surprise as we’ve reported before that Samsung may use a souped-up version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on all three phones.

However, something that is new is the report suggests that the Galaxy S23 series won’t be the only Samsung flagship to have a Snapdragon chip. The outlet mentions a leaker who says that Samsung using Snapdragon won’t be a one-time thing. Rather, the company may be planning to use Snapdragon until it’s finished developing its new Exynos chip.

It’s been confirmed that Samsung plans to create a special chip similar to Google’s Tensor chip for the Pixel. However, it’s expected this chip is still a few years away from being finished. So if this leak is true, Samsung may rely on Qualcomm for a couple of generations.

We’re less than a week away from finding out all the official details about the Galaxy S23 series. But it will be a while before we know for sure what Samsung will do with the flagship in the following generations.
