Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers Investigate Marvel’s New Outlaw Captain America (Preview)
In an early look at the United States of Captain America #2, Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers are on the hunt for the shield – and another new Cap.
Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson are on the case of a stolen shield, the hunting of local Captain Americas, and a Cap on the run in a preview for The United States of Captain America #2.
Every Marvel fan knows Steve Rogers as the “Star-Spangled Man” at this point, whether they’re reading his stories on the page or watching Chris Evans willing to pay the price of freedom throughout each film. However, The United States of Captain America aims to highlight the work not only by Rogers, but every iteration of the hero, such as the ever-growing in popularity Sam Wilson after his Marvel Cinematic Universe rebrand following the comics. The series will also explore a series of local Captain Americas who choose to take the friendly neighborhood route of the Avengers-level hero.
The first issue of the limited series saw the shield stripped from Steve Rogers by a lookalike wearing his Captain America uniform. With the help of Sam Wilson, the two began to pursue the thief, who would use the shield to attack a train in Queens. There, the Caps encountered Aaron Fischer, the Captain America of the Railways, who aided the pair before being wounded by a sniper, who is believed to be targeting the “Captains Network” made up of local heroes inspired by those who have worn the mantle.
The second issue picks up with Rogers and Wilson tracking down the shield by going down the rabbit hole of the Captains Network, one member currently in trouble with the law. This local Cap, Nichelle Wright, is being pursued and charged with domestic terrorism over a busted pipeline. Because “two Caps are better than one,” Sam Wilson has put his Captain America uniform back on, believing it will inspire others of what the symbol should truly mean.
Wilson has not been seen in the red, white and blue since 2017 once Rogers had fully returned in comics at the time to reclaim the title. Though, fans will know that he was not the only other mainstay Cap for a while. While absent from this preview, the series also promises to see John Walker (the U.S. Agent) and Bucky Barnes (the Winter Soldier), who have also previously held the name of Captain America, join Wilson and Rogers in their journey. Based on the preview, it is unclear if Barnes or Walker will appear in the issue.
