Sam Heughan on if he’ll keep in touch with Caitriona Balfe after Outlander end
Outlander is back for its eighth and final season this year, with the cast bidding a sad farewell to the characters they have been playing for nearly a decade.
Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser in the STARZ fantasy series, has detailed whether he plans to stay in touch with Caitríona Balfe, who plays his on-screen partner Claire Fraser.
The actor, 43, also discussed the spin-off series show bosses have planned, as Caitríona, 43, admitted she felt “so sad” the series was coming to an end.
Speaking to Radio Times, the pair opened up about the bittersweet experience of filming their final series together.
“It’s changed my life,” Caitríona said. “It’s really strange thinking that, this time next year, it’ll be finished and that’ll be it, a chapter done in my life.

“I think having eight series will give us a real opportunity to finish it properly. But at the same time, it’s going be so sad.”
Sam added: “It’s been a great journey, and to share it with Caitríona has been fantastic.
“I’m sure we will be in each other’s lives after the show is finished. But even saying ‘after the show is finished’ is weird.
“There’s going to be a lot of sadness — but we still have a lot to film. There’s a long way to go yet.”
While Outlander might be coming to an end after eight seasons, the story is set to continue.
A new spin-off, which is a prequel centred around Jamie’s parents called Outlander: Blood of My Blood, is reportedly already in the works.
Speaking about the upcoming series, Sam said: “I’m going to claim it as our legacy. I’m really excited.
“Obviously, there’ll be a new cast. I wish them luck,” he added, before quipping: “I just hope they’re not as talented as us.”
The final series of Outlander arrives on June 16 on STARZ.
