Saira Khan has called on women over 50 to feel confident wearing bikinis and more revealing swimwear. with a ‘huge yes’.

Introducing the ‘debate’, the former Loose Women star shared that her response was a ‘huge yes’, as she posted an empowering photo of herself alongside her message.

In the picture, Saira, 53, posed in her own bikini for a mirror selfie, opting for a white string bikini made out of 50% recycled material with a printed orange leaf pattern.

The original Apprentice runner-up accessorised her look with a pink Apple watch, beaded bracelets and several chains around her neck – as well as a smile.

‘Should a woman over 50 wear a bikini? – I saw this being debated in the press a few days ago and my answer is a huge YES YOU CAN!’ she began in her caption.

The mum-of-two continued: ‘Go for it ladies – you’ve only got one life. Stop listening to these stupid debates and stop worrying about your age and what others think. Do you.

Others agreed that women over 50 ‘absolutely’ should opt for that type of swimwear.

‘Where I come from in Norway most people wear bikinis. My mum is 81 and wears one. I have never seen her in a swimsuit,’ another fan added.

Countdown star Carol Vorderman also shared her own shocking experience of sparking a debate over 20 years ago as she declared that ‘age and what you wear should never be in the same sentence’.

‘Society’s views change’ she promised as she shared a story, recalling how a short blue dress she wore to the Baftas in 2000 sparked headlines.
